Pune is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra. Pune city stands bordered by the ranges of the Sahyadri Mountain. The moderate weather as well as the rich flora and fauna of the city make it an ideal travel destination. It has been known by a plethora of sobriquets. Popular among them: ‘Queen of the Deccan’, ‘Cultural capital of Maharashtra’, and ‘Oxford of the East’. It is also among the greenest urban areas in the country with more than 40 per cent of its area under green cover.

Pune is the ninth populous city of the India and one of the top 10 “Most Developed Cities” in India by GDP 2016 and one of the fastest developing cities in the Asia Pacific region. It has a very strong presence in the automobile sector and is on its way to consolidate its position as the ‘Detroit of India’ too. Once referred as ‘Pensioner’s Paradise’ it is now home to many software and IT companies.

In Pune, the past meets the present. It is one of those rare cities with a twin image: that of a tradition-bound place – generally considered the quintessence of Maharashtrian culture – and that of a modern industrial metropolis.

How to Reach

BY TRAIN

Pune Junction railway station connects the city with all the prime Indian destinations. There are several mail/express trains and superfast trains linking the city to various Indian destinations in south, north and west. Some of the prominent trains operating to/from Mumbai are Deccan Queen and Shatabdi Express, which take around three-and-a-half hours approximately to reach Pune.

BY ROAD

Pune enjoys excellent connectivity with neighbouring cities and towns by well-maintained network of roads. Mumbai (140 km), Ahmadnagar (121 km), Aurangabad (215 km) and Bijapur (275 km) all are well-linked to Pune by a number of state and roadways buses. Those driving from Mumbai need to take Mumbai-Pune Expressway route, which takes barely 2 to 3 hours to cover a distance of about 150 km.

Pune is well connected through domestic airlines with the entire country. The airport located at Lohgaon has recently acquired status of an international airport and is being used to carry domestic as well as international traffic.Lohegaon Airport or Pune Airport is an international airport, located 15 km away from Pune city centre.Visitors can avail taxi and local bus services from outside the airport to reach their destination.
